When I was in elementary school, there was always some kid who would inevitably bring in a pony, a unicorn, or an alleged moon rock to show off at show-and-tell. I lived in a humble household with a limited budget, so I typically brought in our electric bill to explain the benefits of proper insulation. The other children would swoon over little Johnny’s “moon rock” (hunk of asphalt) and I would be in the corner, yawning and going over kWh numbers.
While the other show-and-tell items were certainly impressive in their own right, they just didn’t seem to have any real magnitude behind them. I needed something that was either practical or indisputably significant. I needed something weighty, something original, something along the lines of a cut signature from a former U.S. President. If only collectors like Seth Garrow and Jacob Lee were in my class, I would have been much more entertained.
Having recently pulled cut signatures from Grover Cleveland and John F. Kennedy respectively, Garrow and Lee have clearly taken the cake at show-and-tell. Gather ‘round, sit cross-legged and hear (read) a tale about these stately pulls.
Seth Garrow just pulled Grover from Mayo.
The last time I wrote a sentence like that, I was referring to a tragic condiment accident on “Sesame Street”. Fortunately, for the sake of Jim Henson’s Muppets, this is a completely different situation.

After purchasing four packs of 2008 Topps Mayo from Gazebo Sports and Gifts in Maine, collector, Seth Garrow didn’t waste much time before gleefully humming “Hail to the Chief.” From his second pack, Garrow inducted a 1-of-1 cut signature from former U.S. President, Grover Cleveland into his already massive collection. “Twelve years of collecting and literally millions of cards cannot compare to the experience of pulling this card,” Garrow enthusiastically explained. Little Johnny’s “moon rock” couldn’t hold a candle to this little piece of history.
Giving us a Social Studies rundown, Garrow also noted that, “This card has extra historical value due to the fact that Cleveland was the only President to serve two non-consecutive terms in the White House.” Serving as the 22nd and 24th U.S. President, Cleveland also sported a killer mustache that I suspect as having been preserved and dyed blue for the creation of the lovable PBS creature.
